“Chat...Naa” Exhibition, 2017
Sound and Videos installation.
Curated by : Vuth Lyno
Expanded cinema curator: Pathompong Manakitsomboon
11 November - 5 December 2017 at Cartel Art space, N22, Bangkok, TH.
This installation consists of three pieces incorporating sculpture, light, sound, and video. The light sculpture uses rainbow-colored Christmas lights and a modified CCTV camera that occasionally moves with the vibrations of a motor. The video images are projected onto three CRT TVs and one projector, which casts the images onto the large wall of the exhibition room. The visual projection of the shaking lights appears on the wall. The humming sound of the motor vibrations is amplified through a loudspeaker.
Rainbow-colored Christmas lights are also used to decorate funerals in Southeast Asia, creating a festive atmosphere alongside the somber occasion. The rainbow lights are projected by the vibrating CCTV camera, producing a trembling black-and-white image in rhythm with the motor.
Additionally, the vibrating sound from the sculpture causes the ground floor to shake, creating an unpredictable environment as the colorful lights appear before the audience.

Chat…Naa brings together previous and new works by Chiang Mai-based artist Arnont Nongyao into an immersive installation of sound, light and moving images. Chat means life, incarnation or nation. Naa means next, future, or to come. The playfulness in the title reflects the attention to a state of yet to come. A state that is transforming and being transformed. It is at once unstable and fragile, yet full of potential. Arnont, therefore, invites us to experience a realm of transition and possibility.
